HIGHLIGHTS
The Dash 8 has always been one of my all-time favorite aircraft. With the ability to fly in and out of some of the most rugged terrain, it is no surprise that this aircraft has proven to be quite a workhorse for Air Greenland. With the challenging weather experienced throughout Greenland, this program features many exciting moments not commonly seen in the average Just Planes video. For example, our first flight featured some exciting moments where the pilots were forced to do not one, but two missed approaches due to the weather conditions. Ultimately, the weather showed signs of further deterioration and they were forced to return to the departure airport. Throughout other flights, there were many other exciting moments where the visibility and snow posed quite a challenge to the crew while landing. In some cases, contact with the approach lights were made at minimums and in others, it was remarkable to see how these skilled pilots were able to operate with ease into and out of airports with very short runways.
For anyone who is a fan of the Dash 8, this program nicely shows why this aircraft, though out of production, still has tremendous value for regions with difficult terrain and weather. As seen in some of the screenshots, some of these aircraft were updated with a cockpit display similar to the Q400 and I’m sure this makes life much easier for the pilots in comparison to the older gauges. With these upgrades, it clearly shows that Air Greenland plans on utilizing this aircraft to the full. As an added bonus to fans of the Dash 8, this program also features a cockpit presentation which shows some of the systems of this aircraft in greater detail. For anyone with a curious mind, this segment might prove to be quite insightful in learning your way around the cockpit. Overall, this program is quite a gem out of the Just Planes line up of videos and I think everyone will enjoy the 4+ hours of adventure contained in this program. While this isn’t the first video program featuring Air Greenland, we can only hope that it won’t be the last!
