HIGHLIGHTS

While SAS isn’t a new airline to be featured in a Just Planes video, the A320neo is a newcomer to the SAS fleet and the airline industry in general. Since we all love taking a look at new toys, it was a most welcome announcement when Just Planes posted that the A320neo would be featured in an upcoming video. With the A320neo being introduced into airline service back in 2016, at its core, this aircraft is still the A320 we have all come to love, but with newer and larger engines that offer up to 15% better fuel efficiency.

Throughout this program, you will have the privilege of examining the operations of the SAS A320neo on flights from Stockholm to the destinations of Malaga (Spain) and Split (Croatia). On our first flight from Stockholm to Malaga, viewers are first taken on an exterior walk-around of the aircraft which takes a closer look at the new engines of this aircraft. After a detailed inspection of the aircraft, we join the crew as they setup the MCDU and make use of the CPDLC for requesting their clearance. For those of you who enjoy some of the more technical aspects of aviation, you will also enjoy segments where the crew calculates takeoff performance using their tablets.

Other highlights from our first round trip includes engine startup procedures, diverting from a buildup of bad weather, review of departure procedures and enroute information and a short but insightful cockpit presentation.

On our second round trip to Split, our two main highlights are presentations by the Captain as she shows the viewers how he prepares for each flight and an informative presentation on the differences between the A320ceo and the A320neo. For anyone who is an avid fan of Airbus aircraft, this segment will by far be the most intriguing aspect of this video presentation. To aviation enthusiasts in general, this program offers an insightful look at the crucial role played by the pilots at SAS and it nicely showcases their friendly and professional demeanor. While it would have been nice to have more flight featured in this program, the highlights of this program were sufficiently captivating and I think every will enjoy taking a closer look at the newest workhorse of the Airbus fleet.

About the model

What sets our models apart is system depth, which we consider to be the most important aspect of model making. The professional Boeing series is therefore licensed by Boeing and tested by real airline pilots and engineers. To stay the top model manufacturer for X-Plane we employ the best texture artists and real aeronautical engineers. We are also fortunate to receive the help from enthusiasts – sound engineers and video auditors.

ORLANDO – July 19, 2018 – FlightSimExpo is pleased to announce that after a successful inaugural event in Las Vegas, the second annual community-driven flight simulation conference will land in Orlando on June 7-9, 2019.

Orlando, one of America’s most visitor-oriented and family-friendly cities, is a top event destination with a wide variety of nearby activities and attractions. The city boasts many domestic and international flight options and is also home to several civilian and military aviation simulation and training facilities.

“We are proud to have based our location on input from developers, exhibitors, attendees, and the flight simulation community,” says Phil Coyle. “In a recent Twitter poll, Orlando was voted the best location for 2019, consistent with feedback we’ve received from those who joined us in Las Vegas in 2018.”

The 2019 event venue is Renaissance Orlando, a Marriott hotel. Located next to one of Orlando’s historic theme parks, minutes from International Drive and Pointe Orlando, Renaissance Orlando offers an incredible atmosphere for the 2019 event. With great room rates, excellent on-site and nearby food options, and a focus on hospitality, organizers are excited to be working with Renaissance Orlando this year.

“When I was on site a few weeks ago, it was clear the venue is a great fit for FlightSimExpo,” says Evan Reiter, one of the conference’s co-founders. “Food is made from scratch in-house, the ballrooms are beautiful, there is a pool, arcade, and outdoor game spaces…really, it’s going to make for a fantastic event!”

In 2018 in Las Vegas, FlightSimExpo welcomed more than 1,100 attendees, along with 45 exhibitors and 21 speakers. Developers in attendance included Orbx, 1C Game Studios, FlyJSim, PILOT’S, REX Simulations, X-Plane, Aerosoft, Infinite Flight, NATCA, Navigraph, PilotEdge, ProSim, simFlight/simMarket, and many more. FlightSimExpo looks forward to hosting even more simmers and developers in 2019.

Conference registration for the June 2019 event will open in December, with Advance Registration starting at the same low price as in 2018.

FlightSimExpo encourages our attendees to stay in touch! We’re publishing video of each of the event seminars, along with interviews and stories from the 2018 event. Visit us on Facebook, Twitter, or our newly-created YouTube channel to see why you should join us in Orlando in 2019!

###

About FlightSimExpo. FlightSimExpo is North America’s community-driven flight simulation conference. HIGHLIGHTS

Without a doubt, when an aircraft manufacturer produces a new aircraft, the aviation community is always eager to get a closer look at what this new aircraft has to offer. With the Bombardier C Series (now designated the Airbus A220) being the newest mid-sized aircraft on the market, there is no shortage of curiosity on what makes this aircraft special. Throughout this program, we will be examining the operations of the Airbus A220-300 as operated by AirBaltic to destinations such as Riga, Antalya, Keflavik and London Gatwick.

Starting off with an introduction to the crew, viewers will be able to see the preparation that takes place prior to the pilots arriving onboard the aircraft. While this segment may seem insignificant, it is perhaps one of the most important aspects of the pilots’ responsibility prior to departure. After completing their paperwork and boarding the aircraft, viewers are able to see for the first time an up-close look at the cockpit displays and the many intuitive features of this aircraft.

As far as the highlights of this program is concerned, on our first round trip to Antalya, the most significant highlight was the cockpit presentation. Throughout this presentation, you will be quite impressed by the level of advanced technology packed into this aircraft. From “virtual” electronic circuit breakers to remarkably advanced map displays, this aircraft is a wonderland to those of you who are intrigued by the technical aspects of aviation.

During other segments of this programs you will also learn more about our pilots and how they got into the world of aviation and their thoughts on the A220 after flying other types of aircraft for many years. Given the fact that this is a new aircraft, the admiration is also focused on the exterior of the aircraft. In another highlight of this program, you will be able to follow the Captain as he completes a thorough walk-around inspection of the aircraft which allows the viewers to admire the stunning engineering of this aircraft, which I personally find very appealing. The final highlight of this program worth mentioning focuses more on the overall viewing experience. For many years, Just Planes has made a tremendous effort to offer their viewers numerous perspectives through the use of multiple camera angles. This program feature up to 6 cameras and they offer unique views of the cockpit and the amazing scenery outside. At times, certain segments are replayed using different camera to offer the viewers a perspective that only the pilots can enjoy.
Ultimately, with over 4 hours of A220 content, if you knew very little about this aircraft before, I can guarantee that you will learn more than you bargained for through this program. Thanks to airlines like AirBaltic, aviation enthusiast can now witness for the first time the excitment of flying the A220 Perhaps in the future it would be nice to see a video that focuses on the Q400!

VATSIM Achieves Membership Milestone

$

0

The VATSIM Board of Governors announced today that the network has exceeded 80,000 active members for the first time. An active member is any member of the VATSIM network who has connected to VATSIM at least once within the last 6 months. This means that the number of members discovering and connecting to VATSIM to enhance their flight simulation hobby is growing,

VATSIM President, Gunnar Lindahl, welcomed the news and has made a short statement.

“This shows not only that our network is going from strength to strength in terms of activity, but also that we are successfully reaching out to enthusiasts across the community who hadn’t yet found us and are now using VATSIM as that extra layer of realism to their flying, which is great news. As always, praise must go to the hundreds of volunteers across VATSIM who not only fly and control, but put in huge numbers of hours in making our hobby bigger and better.

But as a Board and a network we are not complacent: we know the membership as a whole have an urgent wish-list, particularly on the technology side. It’s fair to say that we have been too slow to respond to changing technology in the past, but we’re excited to accept this challenge as our #1 priority and having seen first-hand some of the work that is ongoing, I’m excited for the future of VATSIM. I’m looking forward to the team sharing more news, including specifics, with the community very soon.”

Our plan to modernise VATSIM and to make the network fit for the future include releasing a new voice codec, but will also deliver other significant improvements to the member experience. In April we finally welcomed a fully staffed Board for the first time in years, including the crucial technical positions, and since then we’ve recruited a large number of volunteers from the developer community to collaborate on these projects. To prepare us for this, we’ve already significantly loosened up the Non-Disclosure Agreement which has been seen as too restrictive in the past and we’re excited to make this a community-led effort, co-ordinated by our VP Technical Development, Zach Biesse-Fitton. Once they are in a position to do so, Zach and the team will be sharing periodic updates on their work and will no doubt be canvassing for further input from the community.

Finally, the Board of Governors would like to take this opportunity to thank every member of VATSIM for their continued support and contributions to the network. VATSIM could not exist without you!

VATSIM stands for Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network. VATSIM hosts an online “world” which allows flight simulation enthusiasts to connect their simulator at home to fly with thousands of others in real time, simulating real air traffic procedures. The beauty of it is that VATSIM also has virtual air traffic controllers who are trained to guide you to your destination. It really is as real as it gets. Best of all, it is completely free. VATSIM has over 80,000 active members all across the world.

The Traffic Global developers have been hard at work updating the Early Access edition of our new AI traffic add-on for FSX and P3D, following all the feedback and helpful suggestions from buyers via the Early Access forum. The latest update (v1.1.0.6) was released recently and as well as numerous fixes and tweaks, provides over 50 new liveries and almost 4,000 additional flight plans, a library of GA flight plans using a combination of custom and default aircraft, enhanced performance of aircraft during landing and take-off and improved aircraft behaviour at gates, with better jetway connections and parking information.

Spotty – 'Spotty' the virtual plane spotter from earlier versions of Traffic has also been reintroduced by popular demand!

The Early Access Edition of Traffic Global is on sale now for £27.99 / €34.95 / $41.99 and a discounted price of £24.99 / €31.20 / $37.49 is available for eligible owners of Traffic 360 - see here for details.
