HIGHLIGHTS

There are few things that aviation enthusiast enjoy more than to learn more about a new aircraft type. The A350 is one of Airbus newest aircraft and it by far one of the most advanced to date. With more and more airlines taking delivery of this aircraft, the public is slowly able to learn more about this aircraft and why it is creating such a buzz in the aviation world. As a passenger, the A350 boasts one of the most comfortable cabins with numerous amenities that promise a unique flying experience for all.

Ethiopian Airlines is one of a few airlines that proudly fly the A350 and it seems like it is quickly becoming a favorite among the pilots of this airline. In this program, Just Planes takes us onboard the A350 operated by Ethiopian airlines from Addis to Dubai and London. While only featuring two destinations, this video presentation is by far one of the best presentations on the A350 that will be of interest to anyone wanting to learn more about this aircraft. Some of the highlights that I found particularly interesting were the presentations done by the pilots which covered an exterior walk-around of the aircraft and a full cockpit presentation which truly confirmed in my mind that Airbus may indeed be one step ahead of Boeing. I truly appreciated how the pilots carefully explained many of the features of the A350 which included the intuitive design of the EFB and many of the advanced systems of the aircraft that made these former Boeing pilots fall in love with this aircraft.

For those of you who enjoy the scenic views from the cockpit, this program is filled with many exciting moments while flying to Dubai and London thanks to the numerous camera angles provided. While getting the right camera angle in the cockpit can be a tricky and somewhat subjective decision, Just Planes did a good job at capturing some of the best perspectives from within the cockpit, although I sometimes miss the straight ahead view from older videos. For viewers who are interested in flying procedures, this program is certainly package with detailed presentations which cover all aspects of flying this aircraft. In short, the program is an Airbus and A350 enthusiast’s 5 hour dose of paradise.

Ethiopian Airlines has consistently been gracious to the aviation community by allowing Just Planes to film their operations. While this is no small task, it was remarkable that the pilots and everyone involved were able to maintain a high professional standard despite being filmed. It is my hope that Ethiopian and other airlines will continue to offer a view of what it takes to fly some of the most amazing aircraft of our time. It is videos such as this that inspires a new generation of pilots.

HIGHLIGHTS

Travel Service is the latest airline to join the Just Planes cockpit video series. Being based in the Czech Republic, Travel Service operates a fleet of 737 aircraft which includes the 700, 800, and the 900ER. In this program we will be riding along with the flight crew as they operate the 737-900ER from Prague to Funchal airport. It might be a bit surprising, but this is the first time that Just Planes will be featuring the 737-900. While it isn’t an exceptionally unique aircraft, it is nonetheless the perfect opportunity to see this aircraft in action.

The program starts off in the typical fashion where the flight crew reviews their dispatch documents which covers NOTAMS, weather, routing and payload. While some may find this segment insignificant, it is important to note that this is a crucial part of a pilots job and it provides a detailed look at the decision making process of the pilots before each flight. For a flight simulator enthusiast or up and coming pilots, learning to make good decisions in the flight planning phase is an essential skill that can prevent many unpleasant surprises during your flight.  Once this is completed, we join the captain on a detailed walk-around of the aircraft where you will be able to see the obvious difference in length between the 737-800 and the 737-900. The walk-around inspection of an aircraft is yet another essential procedure prior to flying since any abnormal findings can easily cause a flight to be delayed or cancelled. After completing the walk-around we head into the cockpit where the remaining preflight and departure procedures are completed.

With Funchal being such a challenging airport that requires specific training and certification for pilots, it was interesting to see that our departure from Prague was flown by the first officer initially and then command of the aircraft was switched to the captain who is specifically allowed to land at Funchal airport. During our flight, the captain provided some interesting details on this requirement and I think that the viewers will really appreciate just how challenging this airport can be. Other insightful segments of this program features presentations on the company, the 737-900 features, detailed review of departure and arrival procedures and as always, a variety of stunning views from the cockpit flying in and out of Funchal. With the skill and professionalism of the Travel Service crew being nicely displayed throughout this program, it certainly promotes the company as being a safe and friendly airline to fly with. Ultimately, if you are a fan of the 737, then this program is certainly worth adding to your collection.

FSSI SimIn SDK Open Beta Launched

$

0

October 21, 2018 | FSSI, a new company formed by several veteran Flight Sim software developers, is delighted to announce an Open Beta of their first product: the SimIn SDK.

The SimIn SDK is an advanced development kit for Prepar3D V3 and V4 that provides oft-requested functionality past the capabilities of both SimConnect and the PDK. The SimIn SDK can be used by aircraft developers via a C gauge or using the included C to XML bridge, or even by scenery or tools developers via a dll.xml-loaded plugin. It is easy to get started, with sample projects and documentation included, and community support provided in our forum.

The SDK, using this revolutionary SimIn engine, is designed to interact with the simulator in a way that proactively handles future upgrades to P3D. Developers can ship products using SimIn technology with the peace-of-mind that upgrades of their product should not be necessary for every single new build of P3D that is released in the future.

In the Open Beta, their initial functionality includes:

  • Terrain Service: Reads terrain raster (DEM, LandClass, Population, WaterClass, etc.) data in-sim, for any place in the world. It also contains APIs to read vector data (Roads, Water, etc.). You can query a grid of cells for each type via an asynchronous callback.

  • Facilities Service: Reads all airports, runways, taxiways, airways, scenery objects, and any other facility data present in the simulator. Similarly to the terrain service, queries can be issued for any point on the earth in realtime, as a grid, radius, or even at the user location.

  • FDE Service: Allows the user to read and change fixed AIR data in-sim, on the fly creating dynamic air tables from any field present in the .air or aircraft.cfg files.

  • Effect Service, Allows the user to change, as in the FX Tool, many different effect parameters dynamically at runtime. A sample is provided that shows the basics of dynamic lighting.

  • Core Functions and G2D Service: Exposes several internal simulator methods programmatically, included access to set a screen color effect, set the sim volume sliders, and read and write the Ground Friction physics coefficients.

With the SimIn SDK, any developer can build addons once thought impossible, such as an airport moving map gauge in a modern jet, a high fidelity GPS or TAWS based on actual data, dynamic lighting based on SimVars or UI input for Scenery or Aircraft, or even an entirely new flight model by dynamically modifying AIR tables at runtime. Backed by the power of the SimIn SDK, the possibilities for developers are endless.

The Open Beta contains an information box that is shown at sim startup, but is otherwise unlimited. The SimIn SDK will be free for developers of freeware projects when shipped as a shared DLL.  We will also support commercial licenses, with more flexible license terms and the ability to compile your code together with SimIn provided as a .lib. Any commercial developers that are interested are encouraged to contact FSSI for more info.

Just released is imaginesim's new version of WSSS Singapore for Prepar3Dv4.
This feature-rich airport is the result of two years intense research and
development. WSSS Singapore Changi is an essential transport hub, lying at
the very heart of the Far East with an unmatched network of true global
reach. The city of Singapore is the economic powerhouse of the South China
Sea. It dominates far eastern trade and is the world's foremost logistical
centre. It's likely that the very computer you are using at one time passed
through the city's port. Features include:

- Fantastic performance using 64bit code optimized for Prepar3Dv4.
- High definition 2k building texturing and native Prepar3Dv4 ground
polygons.
- Fluid usage, even with complex airliner cockpits and high density AI
coverage.
- Low visibility nav lighting.
- Switchable dynamic lighting option.
- Features the newly opened Terminal 4.
- Utilizes imaginesim's bespoke Operations Center configuration GUI.
- Comprehensive ground and building optimization.
- Interactive SODE jetways.
- Instantaneous scenery cache loading.
- Trees, plants and vegetation modelled with types native to Singapore.
- No generic library textures used.
- Switchable high 2k or medium 1k texture set.
- 52 square kilometer coverage of the WSSS area.
- Low simulator impact.
- Graduated ground extremities to seamlessly blend with any vector driven
add-on.
- CCX Singapore Lite recreating the city centre included for free.
- Pre-wired to receive imaginesim's free Airport Animator plugin (due Fall
2018).

Available right now at Imaginesim along with further information, video and screenshots.

France VFR is pleased to announce the release of Bretagne VFR 3DA Vol.1 for P3Dv4 :

This huge 3D photoreal  scenery models the Britany region of France .

This new VFR Regional Extension Pack series was designed and developed to make VFR flight and its environment as realistic as possible. It's the result of years of experience and practice in flight simulation and 3D modeling.

"VFR Regional" products embed all enhancements from the new 3DAutomation® technology developed by France VFR. This technology generates the most realistic and dense environments possible. It does not intend to model real world accurately but to create a copy "as real as it gets" on a massive scale. It will evolve to adapt to the needs and new data available.

 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

- Ground textures from 0.8 to 1.20 meter / pixel resolution from IGN aerial photography reworked for an optimal visual rendition in Prepar3D®  (summer only).
 - Dedicated mesh with high definition 4.75 meters (LOD13).
 - Lakes and rivers with navigable waters fitting the texture.
 - Transparency management of the seabed on the entire scene.
 - Semi-detailed generic airports including flatten platform correction.
 - Obstacles and VFR landmarks modeled on the entire scene including the official SIA database (antennas, towers, water towers, wind turbines, various constructions ...).
 - Hundreds of thousands of objects and notable buildings integrated into the environment (churches, power plants, silos, castles, industrial tanks, bridges, tolls, cranes, boats, streetlights, road signs ...).
- Integration of 3D Automation® technology allowing multi-million buildings and realistic vegetation areas fitting geographic specs.
 - Extremely dense and optimized vegetation coverage using a custom rendering module controlled by artificial intelligence (AI).
 - Autogen buildings including additional specific and optimized 3D variations.
 - Geo-referenced data for maximum compatibility with future add-ons installed on the same area.
- Development process 100% Lockheed Martin® SDK specifications compliant, ensuring maximum compatibility with new releases.
